Agenda Item: Addressing Security Threats to Sovereignty Imposed by Foreign Military Presence

In an era where geopolitical tension is escalating and global military footprints are expanding, questions of sovereignty and self-determination have returned to the forefront of international debate. The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL) now faces the daunting task of addressing the complex, often controversial, issue of foreign military presence on sovereign soil.

From military bases established through historic treaties to unauthorized interventions and occupations, the presence of foreign forces has long been a source of friction in international relations. Delegates must examine whether these presences promote peace and security—or undermine national autonomy and regional stability.

In this session, you will confront the political, legal, and ethical dimensions of sovereignty in the face of foreign influence. Can a balance be struck between national security and international cooperation? Will the committee move toward regulation, withdrawal, or redefinition?
